The FBC Missions Statement
At FBC we believe very strongly that God has commanded us to simultaneously take the Gospel message to our community, our country, and our world (Acts 1:8). We accomplish this through the mission's arm of our church. We define the word "missionary" this way:
A missionary is a man or woman who displays the call of God to a full-time position of prayerfully preaching, teaching, and/or proclaiming the Word of God (Acts 6:4) to people groups in a culture different from his/her own in areas of the world where Jesus Christ is largely, it' not entirely, unknown (Romans 15:20); this should include the crossing of geographic, cultural, and/or ethnic boundaries (Acts 22:21).
We support a variety missionary families. These missionaries are laboring around the globe to reach as many people as possible with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We seek to encourage our missionaries through prayer, personal contact (letters, e-mails, phone calls, and visits), and financial support.
We keep our congregation informed of the needs of our missionaries in four ways: missions displays in the church foyer, weekly updates at Wednesday night prayer meeting regarding needs, monthly missionary updates from the platform on Sunday mornings, and our annual mission conference held in October. (We are working on several ideas to keep our congregation more informed about and in closer, more regular contact with our missionaries.)
